People borne a generation or two ago seem not to understand us, always referring us to a lot who has discarded the good old family values for the so-called social ills like individualism.
How true are such accusations? To find out more about our values, we conducted mini polls over the last four months to arrive at some interesting results. Food for thought here.
Apparently, we still concern ourselves with the age-old issue of virginity. The topic "Will you accept your partner if he/ she is not virgin?" attracted the most number of voters among the various topics - a stunning 504 respondents - over a 2-week period. If this is a gauge of liberalness of any form, then indeed, we are an "open-minded" lot. Some 48% exclaimed "No problem with that!", while only 27% were the rightists who objected strongly to their partners losing virginity to someone other than themselves. As usual, the remaining enjoyed sitting on the fence....
If at this stage, what lingers in your minds is that we really are a lot much more "liberal" (in the most commonly understood sense of the word) than our parents, consider this - 59% (a significant majority, mind you) think that marriage should be the only and final destination for any loving relationship!!! Yes, many of us do yearn to get married, only that over here we do not bemoan over the lack of boyfriends or girlfriends as much as Ally McBeal does. 34% would think twice about committing to a marriage or would rather go for cohabitation. Only 7% choose to remain singletons.
What's most important that you would look out for in your lifetime partner? (the 2nd hottest topic which drew about 400 respondents over 3 weeks)
63% looks into attractive personality, 20% says its common interest, 12% on established career, 5% based on good looks....
